Message Aim: Help to understand our purpose as the Church.
Sermon Title: “Who, Jesus is Calling, to ‘Follow Me’”
Scripture: Mark 1:16-20
16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon[g] and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 19 A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. 20 He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.
Message Synopsis:
Why Did Jesus Call the First Disciples?
He called them into a relationship with Himself. He called to give them a larger purpose. He called them into a deeper meaning for life. He called to create them into a new family. He called to change their lives for the better. He called them to get involved in His work.
Why You Should Get Involved?
The Church exists to help others through the journey of discovering Jesus Christ, authentic relationships, and a purposeful life. By getting involved you can do something that will make a difference in your life and in the lives of others.
(1) New Beginning
Several years ago a vision was born to fulfill God’s call to begin a new church in the Moneta area to meet the people’s spiritual needs in that community. There are people here that are in need of a Life-Giving Church! We believe that we are that “Church.” We want to be a light shining the way to help people find their way to God for the first time (or find their way back once again to God if they have gotten far away).
(2) What do we mean, “Reaching People?”
Do we care about what people are going through in life? Do we have any answers or hope about how to make life’s journey any different or better? Of course we do! The answer is in love – in the love of God. God wants us to love people enough to reach out to them with the gospel in creative ways. We desire for our church at Lake Side to be characterized by a vibrant, evangelistic spirit that witnesses the power of God transforming lives through His amazing Grace?
(3) Make Lake Side a Life-Giving Church!
God uses His people’s hands, and feet, and hearts and love to reach out to others. Let’s be that Church together. Here is how we can bring the unchurched and the lost to Christ through Lake Side. First, Pray! Pray for neighbors, family members, coworkers, acquaintances, and the unchurched. Second, Get acquainted! Develop relationships with others and the unchurched. Third, Help the spiritually wounded! People are being hurt every day. We can help us bring healing to them by sharing the good news of Jesus together. You can make a difference.
(4) Don’t Just Go To Church, “Be The Church!”
Each of us needs other people. Different people are differently gifted. God wants his people to gather for regular fellowship, worship, discipleship and ministry. God tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:9 that “two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together” (NCV). God puts us together for our own good, and we do his work better when we work together. As you share the work together with other fellow Christians, you’ll find that you actually accomplish more for the glory of God. We invite you to be a part of the Church Team.
