When, Jesus Finished, New Beginning

When, Jesus Finished, New Beginning

Message Aim: Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Launch a “New Beginning” movement.

Sermon Title:  When, Jesus is Finished, a ‘New Beginning ‘

 Scripture:  John 19:28-30; 20:19-21

19: 28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

20: 19 That Sunday evening[b] the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. 20 As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord! 21 Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”

 Message Synopsis:

Welcome to our Easter Celebration Service today! I am so glad you are here!

Two years ago I had a stroke while working at church as I was preparing for a Wednesday night small group Bible study.  The small group made me – literally – go to the ER.  I was admitted to the hospital and had surgery. What I first thought was the worst possible situation – my stroke, possible heart failure – were turned around, and used for good to change my life and offer me a New Beginning.

Easter is all about New Beginnings!  God took the worst possible situation – the suffering, the crucifixion on the cross, the death of His Son – turned it around, used it for good and changed the world with New Beginning.  Today we are launching a “New Beginning.” There are people in this community that are in need of a Life-Giving Church! People in need of the hope and healing that can be found only in Jesus. We are going to be that kind of Church. And we invite you to be a part with us in our New Beginning?

If you really want to let God change you, you will do three things: First, you’ll…

I. OPEN YOUR MIND TO GOD’S POWER
If you really want to change your life, it starts with a new understanding, a new perspective. It starts with opening your mind to the power of God.

II. OPEN YOUR HEART TO GOD’S GRACE
Grace is the power God gives you to do the changes in your life that you can’t do on your own. We all need grace. God knows what’s best for you. Even when you don’t know what’s best.

III. OPEN YOUR LIFE TO GOD’S LOVE
No one will ever love you more than God does. You were made by God and for God and until you understand that, life does not make sense. You were made for a relationship with God.

Easter changes everything! Will you let Jesus change you? Give you a new Beginning?
